On the evening of January 24, 2025, the Chinese Embassy in Nauru held a reception to mark the first anniversary of the resumption of diplomatic relations between China and Nauru and celebrate the 2025 Chinese New Year.

More than 300 people attended the event, including Nauru's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Angimea; Minister of Health, Scotty; Deputy Speaker, Eoe; Deputy Minister of the Cabinet, Dagiago and other members of the cabinet on the island, senior officials of various government departments, High Commissioner of Australia to Nauru, Barclay, and representatives of relevant diplomatic missions in Nauru, senior executives of Nauru's enterprises and institutions and people from all walks of life, as well as representatives of Chinese-funded institutions and overseas Chinese in Nauru.

Ambassador Lyu Jin extended New Year greetings of the Year of the Snake to all the guests and expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Nauru government, people from all walks of life and overseas Chinese in Nauru for their positive contributions to promoting the development of China-Nauru relations over the past year. Lyu said that over the past year, under the strategic guidance of President Xi Jinping and President Adeang, China-Nauru relations have overcome difficulties and made continuous progress in high-level exchanges, practical cooperation and people-to-people and cultural exchanges. The two sides have blazed a bright path of sincere friendship and mutual assistance, setting an example of equal treatment and friendly cooperation between large and small countries. Lyu Jin emphasized that based on the important milestone of the first anniversary of the resumption of diplomatic relations between China and Nauru, the two sides should seize the present and look to the future to better plan the development of China-Nauru relations. It is necessary to always abide by the one-China principle, continuously consolidate political mutual trust, actively promote practical cooperation, vigorously promote people-to-people and cultural exchanges, jointly safeguard international fairness and justice, make the relations between the two countries more stable, closer and more fruitful, and work together to build a community with a shared future for mankind.

On behalf of the Nauru government, Minister of Foreign Affairs Aingimea delivered a speech to congratulate on the first anniversary of the resumption of diplomatic relations between Nauru and China, saying that the relations between Nauru and China are based on common values. China follows the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence, regards Nauru as an equal and mutual assistance partner, and shows a development path in line with Nauru's national economic and social conditions. Over the past year, political mutual trust between Nauru and China has deepened, mutually beneficial cooperation has made positive progress, and the two sides have supported each other on the international stage. The bilateral relations have reached a new height, bringing remarkable returns to the sustainable development of Nauru in various fields. Aingimea affectionately recalled the warm and sincere reception he received during his first visit to China, saying that China's sincerity is not only reflected in words, but also in actions. He firmly believes that the two countries will become a model of sovereign states working together to achieve transformation and change. Aingimea also extended sincere New Year greetings to the Chinese government and people and overseas Chinese in Nauru on behalf of the Nauru government and people.

To celebrate the first Spring Festival after the successful application for world heritage status, Spring Festival couplets were pasted, lanterns were hung, red ribbons were hung down from the beams, and cultural and creative products were placed on the exhibition stands at the event site, creating a strong visual impact of "Chinese red" and a strong flavor of the New Year. The documentary on Chinese Spring Festival culture played in a loop showed the long history and profound heritage of the Spring Festival to Chinese and foreign friends, and the carefully produced theme video of the first anniversary of the resumption of diplomatic relations led the guests to comprehensively review the important course of the development of bilateral relations over the past year. The students of Nauru High School brought the chorus "Hope", singing the friendship between the two countries and drawing bursts of cheers. Nauru's Minister of Health, Scotty, Deputy Minister Dagiago and other senior government officials present led all the government officials to sing the Nauru song "Love Unites Us" to wish the Chinese people a happy New Year, winning applause from the whole audience. Overseas Chinese and Chinese-funded institutions sang patriotic songs one after another, expressing their longing for their motherland and hometown. Ambassador Lyu Jin, together with all the staff of the embassy and the overseas Chinese present, sang "My Chinese Heart" and "Ode to the Motherland", reaching a climax of the festive atmosphere.
