On the afternoon of January 27, 2026, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) Zhao Leji held talks with President of the Senegalese National Assembly Malick Ndiaye at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.

Zhao Leji stated that China and Senegal are sincere partners who support each other, pursue common development, and work in solidarity. Over the past two years, President Xi Jinping has met respectively with President Bassirou Diomaye Faye and Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko, drawing up blueprints for the development of bilateral relations. China is ready to work with Senegal to implement the important common understandings reached by the leaders of both countries and the various measures announced at the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), enrich the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between the two countries, and make greater contributions to jointly building an all-weather China-Africa community with a shared future for the new era.

Zhao Leji noted that Senegal has publicly reaffirmed its steadfast commitment to the one-China principle, which China highly appreciates. China will continue to support Senegal in pursuing an independent, autonomous development path. Both sides should expand high-quality, mutually beneficial cooperation, strengthen the strategic synergy between China's 15th Five-Year Plan and the "Senegal 2050", and tap into the potential for cooperation in areas such as industrialization and agricultural modernization, trade and investment, new energy, and the digital economy. Taking the China-Africa Year of People-to-People Exchanges as an opportunity, the two sides should deepen exchanges in areas such as culture, education, media, youth, healthcare, and sports, and at the subnational level, and strengthen the bonds of friendship between China and Senegal, and between China and Africa. China appreciates Senegal's active support for the vision of building a community with a shared future for humanity and the four global initiatives, and is willing to enhance cooperation with Senegal in promoting Africa's strength through unity, safeguarding regional peace and security, and defending international fairness and justice.

Zhao Leji emphasized that the NPC of China is ready to work with the Senegalese National Assembly to strengthen exchanges and cooperation between high-level legislatures, specialized committees and bilateral friendship groups, as well as between NPC deputies and members of the Senegalese National Assembly, and deepen experience sharing on governance, legislation and supervision, so as to create a favorable legal environment for practical cooperation between the two countries. The NPC of China is also ready to work with the Senegalese National Assembly to enhance coordination and cooperation within multilateral mechanisms such as the Inter-Parliamentary Union to increase the voice and representation of Global South countries.

Malick Ndiaye said that Senegal firmly adheres to the one-China principle, highly commends the four global initiatives proposed by President Xi Jinping, and appreciates China's valuable support in Senegal's economic and social development. Senegal is ready to continuously advance Belt and Road cooperation with China, strengthen cooperation in various fields, implement the outcomes of the FOCAC, and jointly uphold international fairness and justice. The Senegalese side highly praises China's practice of whole-process people's democracy. The Senegalese National Assembly is willing to deepen exchanges and cooperation with the NPC of China, and to play an active role in promoting the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between Senegal and China.
