On the morning of January 27, 2026, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) Zhao Leji met with Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo in Beijing.
Zhao Leji said that Finland was among the first Western countries to recognize and establish diplomatic relations with the People's Republic of China, and that the two sides have long enjoyed friendly relations and upheld mutual respect and trust. In October 2024, President Xi Jinping held talks with President Alexander Stubb, reaching important common understandings on deepening the future-oriented new-type cooperative partnership between China and Finland. China is ready to work with Finland to stay true to the original aspiration of establishing diplomatic relations, enhance political mutual trust, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation, expand people-to-people and cultural exchanges, and promote the steady and sustained development of bilateral relations. The NPC of China is willing to deepen exchanges and cooperation with the Parliament of Finland, learn from each other's experience in legislation, supervision and state governance, and provide legal guarantees for practical cooperation across various fields.
Petteri Orpo said that Finland-China relations have enjoyed long-term, stable development. Finland congratulates China on its remarkable development achievements, adheres to the one-China policy, and is willing to deepen cooperation with China in areas such as economy, trade and innovation, and to strengthen exchanges between legislative bodies.
