On May 28, 2026, Member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) Wang Huning met in Beijing with a UK cross-party parliamentary delegation that was in China for the 14th China-UK Senior Leadership Forum.
Wang Huning noted that in January this year, President Xi Jinping met with Prime Minister Keir Starmer during his visit to China, and the two sides agreed to develop a long-term and consistent comprehensive strategic partnership, charting the course for the growth of bilateral relations. China stands ready to work with the UK to jointly implement the important common understandings reached by the two leaders, strengthen inter-party exchanges, enhance political mutual trust, and achieve more outcomes in mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries. The National Committee of the CPPCC is willing to make positive contributions to this end.
Former UK Minister for the Cabinet Office and President of the Great Britain-China Centre David Lidington and others noted that during this visit, they have witnessed China’s greater development achievements, and a prosperous and stable China serves the interests of all parties. The UK side values opportunities for cooperation with China, appreciates China’s contributions to global governance, and stands ready to strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation and multilateral coordination with China to promote common development and world peace and stability.
Wang Dongfeng and others attended the meeting.
