On the morning of June 5, 2026, Member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress (NPC) Zhao Leji met in Beijing with General Secretary of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party Central Committee and President Thongloun Sisoulith.

Zhao Leji stated that under the strategic guidance of General Secretary and President Xi Jinping and General Secretary and President Thongloun Sisoulith, China-Laos relations are enjoying the best period in their history. China stands ready to work with Laos to implement the strategic consensus reached by the top leaders of the two parties and two countries and jointly build a China-Laos community with a shared future of high standards, high quality, and a high level. The National People’s Congress of China is willing to deepen multi-level and multi-field cooperation with the National Assembly of Laos, strengthen exchanges on the rule of law, legislation, and other areas, and provide legal safeguards for the modernization drive of the two countries.

Thongloun Sisoulith stated that regardless of how the international landscape may evolve, the building of the Laos-China community with a shared future will continue to be consolidated and developed. He warmly congratulated the Communist Party of China on the tremendous achievements it has led the Chinese people to accomplish and expressed the hope that the legislative bodies of the two countries will deepen exchanges in legislation and other fields and contribute to the development of Laos-China relations.
