On the morning of October 1, a commencement ceremony for the foundation dynamic compaction of the China-Aided Nauru Sports Center Project was held. Lyu Jin, Chinese Ambassador to Nauru, along with Nauruan President David Adeang, Speaker Marcus Stephen, all on-island Cabinet Ministers and heads of various government departments of Nauru, attended the ceremony. Staff of the Chinese Embassy in Nauru and the Chinese construction team also participated in the event.
